Plastic pallets: advantages & environmental impact

Pallets are the Industry Standard for storage & transportation of goods, safely stacked and offering good stability. They have been around since the 20th Century and are often made out of wood, plastic or other materials.

Wooden pallets represent the vast majority of the market, in despite of having certain disadvantages related to their use: the ease with which humidity or high temperatures can damage their integrity, great cost of maintenance due to the presence of splinters, nails, deviated boards, etc., excessive weight and difficulty in its hygiene.

Plastic pallets, on the other hand, are less extended, but appear as an ecological alternative to the use of wood. Furthermore, they bring advantages as a longer service life, lightweight, easy hygiene, and great resistance to both outdoor conditions and extreme temperatures.

Another virtue of note, is the fact that its plastic material makes them apt for quick recycling, eliminating the need to separate materials as they are plastic only. This provides a profitable solution to a waste material that has always been problematic to manage, and at the same time it decreases the environmental impact by reducing the CO2 generation by 84%, and reducing the use of forest mass.

However, it is important to note that plastic pallets’ price is higher than the price of those made out of wood, but this difference can be returned in a relatively short amount of time by reducing the amount of defective pallets and their related costs of repair.

PET Packaging Network, within its policy of respect towards the environment and future generations, offers the equipment needed for for self production of plastic pallets, as well as the finished pallets in which cases the clients demand so.
